What the name means

Leioglossa glacialis means roughly “icy smooth-tongue”: from leio- (smooth) and glossa (tongue), and glacialis (icy). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.

How to find one

Dive to under the ice (it opens at diving level 1) and look for an arowana with Ice Shelf colouring, or breed for it: you need all five of its traits to show at once, and some of them may be recessive, hidden in a parent’s second gene copy. The breeding screen shows the exact odds. See how fish genetics work.
