Taeniocyclopterus florens

The first Taeniocyclopterus florens ever found, swimming live. Its hidden genes stay hidden.

Taeniocyclopterus florens lyridentata is a species of alien fish in Fish of Ganymede: a lumpsucker with a ribbon dorsal fin, Vent Bloom colouring, a lyre tail and a fanged mouth. It lives in hadal trenches, 25 km to 60 km under Ganymede’s ice. It was first found by Ganymede Traders on 3 November 2026.

What the name means

Taeniocyclopterus florens means roughly “blooming ribbon-round fin”: from taenio- (ribbon) and cyclopterus (round fin), and florens (blooming). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.

How to find one

Dive to hadal trenches (it opens at diving level 28) and look for a lumpsucker with Vent Bloom colouring, or breed for it: you need all five of its traits to show at once, and some of them may be recessive, hidden in a parent’s second gene copy. The breeding screen shows the exact odds. See how fish genetics work.
