What the name means
Histioichthys lucerna means roughly “lamp sail-fish”: from histio- (sail) and ichthys (fish), and lucerna (lamp). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.
