The first Leiocyclopterus ferruginea ever found, swimming live. Its hidden genes stay hidden.

Leiocyclopterus ferruginea flabelliparva is a species of alien fish in Fish of Ganymede: a lumpsucker with a low dorsal fin, Rust Vent colouring, a fan tail and a small mouth. It lives in under the ice, 0 m to 300 m under Ganymede’s ice. It was first found by FrostAngler257 on 6 November 2026.

What the name means

Leiocyclopterus ferruginea means roughly “rust-coloured smooth-round fin”: from leio- (smooth) and cyclopterus (round fin), and ferruginea (rust-coloured). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.

How to find one

Dive to under the ice (it opens at diving level 1) and look for a lumpsucker with Rust Vent colouring, or breed for it: you need all five of its traits to show at once, and some of them may be recessive, hidden in a parent’s second gene copy. The breeding screen shows the exact odds. See how fish genetics work.
