What the name means

Leiocyclopterus algarum means roughly “of the kelp smooth-round fin”: from leio- (smooth) and cyclopterus (round fin), and algarum (of the kelp). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.

How to find one

Dive to twilight drift (it opens at diving level 4) and look for a lumpsucker with Kelp Ghost colouring, or breed for it: you need all five of its traits to show at once, and some of them may be recessive, hidden in a parent’s second gene copy. The breeding screen shows the exact odds. See how fish genetics work.
