Histiomuraena glacialis

The first Histiomuraena glacialis ever found, swimming live. Its hidden genes stay hidden.

Histiomuraena glacialis furcirostrata is a species of alien fish in Fish of Ganymede: an eel with a sail dorsal fin, Ice Shelf colouring, a fork tail and a beak mouth. It lives in hadal trenches, 25 km to 60 km under Ganymede’s ice. It was first found by Tide Dreamer 293 on 2 November 2026.

What the name means

Histiomuraena glacialis means roughly “icy sail-moray”: from histio- (sail) and muraena (moray), and glacialis (icy). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.

How to find one

Dive to hadal trenches (it opens at diving level 28) and look for an eel with Ice Shelf colouring, or breed for it: you need all five of its traits to show at once, and some of them may be recessive, hidden in a parent’s second gene copy. The breeding screen shows the exact odds. See how fish genetics work.
