What the name means
Histiomuraena ferruginea means roughly “rust-coloured sail-moray”: from histio- (sail) and muraena (moray), and ferruginea (rust-coloured). Every species name is built from its genes: the dorsal fin and body plan give the genus, the colouring gives the species name, and the tail and mouth the last word.
